North Okanagan Hospice Society Transfer of Residents due to high creek levels
VERNON, BC (May 9, 2018): The North Okanagan Hospice Society is situated next to BX Creek. Because of today’s rainfall and the warmer weather causing snow melt, we have been advised today by Interior Health Authority and the City of Vernon to transfer the current residents in our care to the Vernon Jubilee Hospital as a precautionary measure. They will remain at the hospital until such a time that Hospice House is deemed safe for their return.
There will be no admissions to Hospice House until further notice.
Our emergency preparedness training and logistics are in effect.
“We wish to extend our heartfelt thanks to the Emergency Preparedness professionals from Interior Health Authority and the City of Vernon for their quick response as well as to our own staff and volunteers for ensuring that all precautions have been taken. We are also grateful to the community for their kind thoughts and their offers of support,” says Ruth Edwards, Executive Director. “North Okanagan Hospice Society values the care and comfort of our residents and their families and will make every effort to ensure their safety.”
More information will be released as it becomes available.
North Okanagan Hospice Society exists so there will be quality end-of-life care for all in the North Okanagan community at a cost that demonstrates good stewardship. The Society was incorporated in 1984 in Vernon as a charitable organization with the purpose of supporting those with a palliative diagnosis, their loved ones and the bereaved. Initially formed as a small volunteer organization with a visiting program, the Society is currently recognized as a leader in the development and delivery of comprehensive hospice palliative care services in British Columbia.
