Hospice receives free wireless network from Meraki-Giving Campaign

New network will provide better access for residents and their families

VERNON, BC (May 2, 2016):  Last fall Cisco Meraki, a leader in cloud managed networking solutions, launched Meraki-Giving, a campaign focused on building relationships with Cisco Meraki’s partner reseller community and their nonprofit customers. 

The North Okanagan Hospice Society (NOHS) was selected as one of the recipients of a free wireless network based on a nomination submitted by local business Protocol Technologies Inc. to the Meraki-Giving Campaign.

“Based on the submission from Protocol Technologies, it was clear that this partner had a strong relationship with NOHS, an organization that was a great fit for the Meraki-Giving program. Improving the wireless connection at NOHS would allow patients to better connect with their families and loved ones in a time of need. Meraki strives to create technology that can connect and empower people and the needs of NOHS aligned perfectly with this mission,” said Margaret Good, Channel Marketing Manager, Cisco Meraki.

Keith McDonald, Network Analyst of Protocol Technologies Inc. and the individual who nominated NOHS for the award, stated in his submission that “having this wireless network would not only benefit Hospice House but the entire community during their times of grieving and would allow family members to access their grandparents, parents, kids, wives, husbands, brothers or sisters at any time they want to talk to their loved ones. A reliable, strong wireless network is essential for the people that are dying for when they wish to talk to their family who are outside of the City.”

NOHS received the gift of 5 MR26 Wireless Access Points with 3 year licenses along with installation at no cost to Hospice by Protocol Technologies Inc. and Okanagan Prewire of Vernon. “We are so appreciative of the increased capacity for the family members of our residents to stay in contact with other family members who cannot be present during the final days of their loved ones’ lives. We sincerely thank Cisco Meraki, Protocol Technologies Inc. and Okanagan Prewire for their collaboration and generous support of Hospice and those who are facing end of life,” shares Ruth Edwards, Executive Director of NOHS.
