2014 Hike for Hospice – A Celebration.
A time to celebrate, recognize and share the achievements of hospice palliative care as one community working towards a common goal. All funds raised, stay in our community. Hike for Hospice helps our friends and family through their final days of life with the holistic approach that includes pain and symptom management, caregiver support, spiritual care, bereavement and much more.
Each year, the Hike for Hospice kicks off Hospice Palliative Care Week – a national initiative which raises awareness of hospice palliative care in Canada. This year the theme for awareness is “Bursting the Myths”.
Please click here for more information (attach PDF on Bursting Myths).
This is a time to draw attention to our challenges and priorities as well as a time to celebrate, recognize, and share the achievements of hospice palliative care throughout the nation.
Imagine a new reality, where hospice palliative care is available to Canadians when and where they need it; where living well thru illness or until death is the goal of care. The palliative care approach focuses on the person and family, and on their quality of life throughout an illness, regardless of their age and background and not just at the end of life. It reinforces the person’s autonomy and right to be actively involved in his or her own care – and strives to give individuals and their families a greater sense of control.
North Okanagan Hospice Society has hosted a Hike for Hospice since 2008. Participation in the Hike through hiking and pledging continues to increase each year and generates much needed funding for our Grief and Bereavement Programs for the North Okanagan communities. As with previous years, 100% of funds raised at our 2014 Hike for Hospice will stay in our community.
Thank you all for your efforts on our behalf as we work towards our goal of raising $40,000 for the Grief and Bereavement programs at Hospice!
