Executive Director Retirement Announcement
After 23 years with the North Okanagan Hospice Society, Ruth Edwards announces her retirement
Vernon, BC (January 8, 2021) – Executive Director of the North Okanagan Hospice Society, Ruth Edwards, announced recently that she will retire on October 14, 2021. Ruth has been involved with the organization in various capacities since 1998 and became the Executive Director in 2010.
“I had the honour of working with the pioneers of the palliative care movement in the North Okanagan who were so inspired when building the solid foundation of our Hospice. I experienced the building of the first phase of Hospice House and the 2008 expansion project which provided our community with the successful Hospice House that we have today,” commented Ruth.
The Society was incorporated in 1984 as a charitable organization with the purpose of supporting those with a palliative diagnosis, their loved ones and the bereaved. Initially formed as a small volunteer organization with a visiting program, the Society is currently recognized as a leader in the development and delivery of comprehensive hospice palliative care services.
“We want to thank Ruth for her dedicated and outstanding service. She set the path for Hospice to move forward, supported by the strong foundation she built with the community,” said David Kennedy, Board President. “Ruth has provided strategic leadership throughout her career and the NOHS staff, Board members and our many stakeholders and partners are thankful for her many contributions.”
“I am grateful to work every day with staff, volunteers and the Board who demonstrate compassion for the clients and their families who are in our care. I am very thankful for the many donors, community members and stakeholders I’ve met over the years and who have shown their commitment to Hospice with contributions of time and resources. It has been an honour to serve our community as the Executive Director of North Okanagan Hospice Society.”
The Board of Directors will begin the recruiting process for a new Executive Director in January 2021. For additional information on the North Okanagan Hospice Society and current employment opportunities, please visit www.nohs.ca.
