If you want to make your own healthcare decisions, you can get some assistance from upcoming seminars being put on by the North Okanagan Hospice Society (NOHS).
The sessions are an introduction and discussion on “Advanced Care Planning,” and will take place in Vernon, Armstrong and Enderby.
These talks are presented by Gabriel Newman, MSW, from the North Okanagan Hospice Society and Phyllis Simon, a notary public. Gabriel is an entertaining speaker who works as a Counsellor, End-of-Life Navigator and Community Program Facilitator at the North Okanagan Hospice. His background in storytelling and his passion for this work shine through in his presentations. Phyllis Simon has forty years of experience as a notary public, with a special interest in planning for end of life.
Advance Care Planning is the process of planning, talking, and sharing beliefs, values, and desires in the case of a health care crisis where you cannot speak for yourself. An Advance Care Plan can help reduce stress for yourself and loved ones, and ensure you receive the care you desire. This presentation will go through the basics for beginning, or updating, your plan.
Talks will be held in Vernon at the North Okanagan Friendship Centre on Tuesday, September 26, from 2:00-3:30 p.m, and the Okanagan Regional Library Wednesday, October 11, from 6:30-8:00 p.m. In Armstrong at the Okanagan Regional Library on Tuesday, October 3, at 2:00-3:30 p.m, and in Enderby at the Okanagan Regional Library on Friday, October 13, from 6:30-8:00 p.m.
