Location: DND Grounds, Vernon BC
Time: 9 AM (Registration & Pancake Breakfast) 11 AM (Hike Starts)
On May 11th, 2024, the DND grounds will transform into a bustling hub of activity as participants gather for the NOHS 2024 Hike for Hospice. This annual event, organized by the North Okanagan Hospice Society, promises a day filled with camaraderie, entertainment, and, most importantly, support for those in need.
Hosted by the ever-enthusiastic Brian and Rebecca, the Hike for Hospice is not just about trekking through nature; it’s about coming together as a community to make a difference. From 9:00 to 13:00 hours, attendees will have the opportunity to engage in various activities, all while contributing to a noble cause.
To kick off the day, the Lions Club will be serving up a delicious pancake breakfast. For just $10.00, attendees can savor three mouthwatering pancakes paired with three savory sausages, prepared with care and served with a smile. And what’s a morning without a good cup of coffee? Ratio Coffee will be on-site, ensuring that everyone stays energized and ready for the day ahead.
Families with children and furry friends need not worry about leaving anyone behind, as entertainment for kids will be provided, and pets are warmly welcomed to join in the fun. There will be something for everyone to enjoy, fostering a sense of inclusivity and community spirit.
For those who love a challenge, there are prizes to be won! Engage in the corporate challenge, show off your creativity with the best-dressed competition, or aim for the title of the individual who raised the most funds. This year’s theme is Back to the 80’s. And don’t forget about our coloring contest. You can grab your copy of the morning star and cut out and color the picture and bring it with you. The prizes will be for 2 yrs and under and 3-10 yrs. The spirit of friendly competition adds an extra layer of excitement to the event, encouraging participants to go above and beyond in their fundraising efforts.
At 11:00 hours, the main event kicks off—the hike itself. Whether you’re a seasoned hiker or just looking for a leisurely stroll, the scenic surroundings of the DND grounds provide the perfect backdrop for a memorable experience. Lace up your hiking boots, gather your friends and family, and get ready to embark on a journey of solidarity and support. This years hike route is wheelchair friendly, so bring those friends and relatives that you think might want to get out of the house in their favorite 80’s outfit!
Registration begins at 09:00 hours, but eager participants can also pre-register on the NOHS website, streamlining the process and ensuring a smooth start to the day. All proceeds raised during the event will stay within NOHS, directly benefiting their vital work in providing compassionate care and support to individuals and families facing end-of-life challenges. You can also get a copy of the pledge form on our website. If you cannot make it up to the grounds for the hike but want to participate you can do so wherever and whenever… just lets us know what your plan is and send us pictures so that we can add it to the web site.
The NOHS 2024 Hike for Hospice isn’t just a hike—it’s a testament to the power of community coming together for a common cause. So, mark your calendars, spread the word, and join us on May 11th for a day of unity, compassion, and making a meaningful difference in the lives of others. Together, we can hike for hospice and support those in need.
